Tranexamic acid for ankle arthroscopy patients with arthrofibrosis

Arthrofibrosis of the ankle can lead to severe stiffness and is difficult manage despite repeated arthroscopic debridement. One causes which could formation arthrofibrotic scar tissue intraarticular bleeding. Tranexamic acid (TXA) an antifibrinolytic agent has been used successfully in hip knee decrease postoperative However, there a paucity literature on potential benefits TXA surgery, particularly arthroscopy. We retrospectively studied all patients who received intra-articular intravenous injection during arthroscopy between January 2019 December 2020. The primary outcome measure was knee-to-wall distance. Secondary measures were Manchester-Oxford Foot Questionnaire (MOXFQ); American Orthopaedic Society Ankle Hindfoot Score (AOFAS) 9-item pain questionnaire collected preoperatively at 6 months 1 year postoperatively. wall distance improved significantly from mean 3.83 cm (SD±3.06 cm) 8.83 (SD,±4.26 cm). AOFAS MOXFQ scores 50.63 (SD,±21.58) 35.38 (SD,±12.45) 81.50 (SD,±15.18) 15.75 (SD,±12.20) respectively follow-up. also median 18 (range: 13–34) 31 22–36).
